I was an officer during my army and when I first reported to my unit(Stagmont Camp in Chao Chu Kang) after commission, I was told to stay in. After the customary introduction and orientation, I was given a bunk space with my above study. 2 Officers will share a room in the Officer bunk with a common toilet. When I first entered the room, it was unusually cold. Well never bothered much about it and just shifted our things in. Well I stayed together with my above study for a while before he took over as acting OC for one of the transport company and elected to stay out. Then I realise every other officers in the unit do not stay in, they chose to book out and book in every day. I never bothered to ask them and continued to sleep for another few days.
However, one night, while returning from a supper session, I noticed that my room was unusually cold with a slight breeze (Windows was closed, fans not on). I was like wah….well…went to the mess and watched TV…When I came back to bathe, it was already 2 am…after my bath, I went back to my room, read some books and prepared to koon…then I heard a flushing sound from the toilet, followed by the opening of the door in the next room. It was followed by a sudden shift of the bed frame and produced a sharp annoying noise. I shouted over to the next room, thinking it must be some pranks by the DYS3 and QM who was occupying that room. The sound stopped and I went to sleep. However, around 4 am, the stupid bed frame moving sound started again. It woke me up and I went over to the room…KNNB, it was locked from the outside…so I tried to call their names and asked them to stop making this prank…the noise stopped and everything was back to normal. So I started to go back to my room. Just when I was about to enter my room, the Guard comm and prowlers appeared at the corner of my eye. I stopped and asked the Gurad comm whether the QM or DYS3 had booked in. Guess what? The Guard Comm replied a flat nope and asked whether I was the one making all the noise.
Well…we looked at each other for a while before we parted way. Of course, I dragged myself all the way from the bunk to the Mess and slept uneasily till 6am.
We never talked about this and I became a Stay out personnel from that day onwards…till our replacements came, the officer bunk was always locked at night….hehe
