I read the story title anklets and it sorta reminded me of what my aunt told me. My mom was fond of wearing anklets, especially those with bells. She was wearing one at the time this happened.
My whole family, and my aunt`s family went on a holiday to Malaysia. We stayed in adjacent rooms at the hotel, my family`s room being the last one on the floor (so it was sorta @ the corner). My mom have this habit of going out late at nite to have supper or simply walk around the place.
There was this one nite, when @ midnite, my aunt heard the klink klink of bells like those on my mom`s anklets. Then she heard a knock on her door. Thinking that it was my mom, she opened the door but there was no one outside. She closed the door and she heard the klink klink again. The “person” seemed to be pacing outside the corridor the whole nite.
She related this to us the next morning and my mom told her that she didnt even knock on my aunt`s door when she came back @ 3am. I reminded my aunt, even if my mum did knock, she would always say Assalamualaikum. Whoever that was my aunt heard, we never found out coz that nite was the last nite we were there.
